I Want To See The Country!

You know, I was just thinking the other day that I’ve done a lot of travelling in my life. I’ve visited major European cities like London, Paris, Rome, Milan and more. I’ve even been to Tokyo Japan and Tel Aviv Israel (great cities but I don’t miss those long flights!). However, one thing I’ve never really done was seen the USA and Canada apart from some of the major cities.

What I’d really like to do sometime in my life is pack the family into one of those big rvs and drive across Canada, all the way from Vancouver (where we live) to as far east as the road will take us! Then I’d like to do the same thing across the US, visiting every state and really getting a feel for how people in different areas live. I think it would be a great thing to do as a family, and would no doubt bring us all closer together as we would be spending pretty much every waking hour together. No video games or television, just sightseeing, camp fires and good old fashioned family board games. Don’t know if the kids would be game for that, but I know I’d really enjoy it and it would probably be good for them!

In her Climbing the Mountain book she describes how she was led by Christ to convey certain things to her and us. The book may get you closer to your religious side and you will seek comfort in it. Enjoy the read.

Online Education is the New Way to Learn

The abundance of broadband Internet has made online education a viable option for students. Online education can be used in both an urban setting or in rural areas. This type of education is more common for higher levels of learning, such as demonstrated by students learning towards a university degree, but it is also becoming more commonplace for elementary and secondary schools.

When it comes to higher level education, most distance learners are working adults, usually working during the day and getting an education at night, a few times per week. Online education is appealing to many students since it is more seamless to learn a given topic and affords a certain flexibility with their other duties of life. There are numerous established colleges and universities that provide real online degrees, such as an associate, bachelor, and masters. Some even offer trades education.

It is also important to note that the traditional school requires the management of expensive overhead, which is not needed when the course is offered via a computer. Since the quality of the course being delivered online may be perceived as different than what is offered in a traditional class, it is necessary for students to foster correspondence with fellow online classmates, tutors, and instructors in order to gain the most out of the experience.

Take Pictures with Film or Digital

In recent years, many people have chosen to move away from using film in their cameras, and instead opt for digital. However, it is important to remember that film does have its advantages. Digital cameras, do offer their users a diverse range of possibilities than ever before, but this also has potential for the making of lots of lazy and less creative photographers. Anyone can take a thousand pictures and a few of them will be really nice, but it is much harder to produce a nice picture from a relatively small shooting session.

A skilled photographer will know how to combine patience and good techniques for avoiding wasted shots. It is acceptable to have a digital camera as well, but it would be nice if people had a second camera that required film. It can make the photography experience that much more involved and enjoyable. You can also consider that after taking the picture, you could partake in the development process in the dark room, which is another task that requires skill to produce beautiful results. Most people would probably take the more automatic way and choose an advanced photofinishing approach to get professional photo novelty services. Either way, enjoy taking photographs!

Considering Law School

Every year around this time I start to take stock of my life and think about how I can improve my current situation and reach my dreams. One of the things that I am currently considering is heading back to school, as that is a surefire way to improve my job outlook and my chances of landing a high paying position some time soon. I had considered becoming a Lawyer a few years ago, but put if off due to personal and professional reasons. However, my passion for law has returned (as well as my passion for making good money), and so I am starting to look at law schools again, and ponder what kind of things that I will write in my law school admission essay. Writing a compelling admission essay is a keep part of being accepted into a quality law school, so it’s important to put a lot of thought into it and not take the task lightly.

I Want To Drop A Few Pounds!

Over the last few years I have certainly gained a few pounds. Okay, a few pounds would be putting it generously, as it’s frankly more like ten to fifteen pounds. Not an overly huge amount, but it just seems to be in the most unflattering places and doesn’t want to go away. I would really like to see it gone before Christmas, and have even considered having Liposuction performed as I know that doing so will remove my fat quickly!

To be honest, it seems to be pretty common for people my age to start to get a little chubby, especially those of us that have desk jobs and aren’t on our feet being physical all day. I wonder if I would be in a lot better shape had I become a nurse or something similar, but I suppose eating habits also have a lot to do with it. While I do try to eat a lot of fruits and vegetables, it seems that every other day someone brings tempting goodies into the office and it’s hard not to indulge. I mean, of course nobody forces anyone to eat them, but it’s hard not to when they are staring you in the face. Anyway, I suppose my new years resolution will be to lose this weight!

Staying Healthy Means Managing Stress

With December and the holidays here, many of us are starting to consider what our New Years resolution will be this year. Of course, many folks will resolve to live a healthier lifestyle, complete with better nutritional habits and a lot  more exercise. However, I hope that folks will also realize that diet and exercise aren’t the only components to staying healthy, but that stress management is crucial as well. High levels of stress are known to effect not only our physical well being (especially the heart) but our mental and emotional well being as well. So it’s important to take the time to consider ways to remove stress from your life, as well as better manage the stress that you can’t avoid, whether that be at work or home.

Some options that you might consider when looking to deal with stress include yoga, professional programs for stress, nature retreats and more. A quick internet search can provide many results and give you some good ideas to start with for reducing your stress. It’s also important to ensure that friends and more importantly family members are dealing with their stress adequately, as otherwise their habits can effect you and your own stress level.

AC In The Wintertime

While it’s becoming very cold where I live (we are even expecting snow this week), I have a few friends and family members who live in Miami Florida where the weather is, of course, warm all year round. Well I was talking to one of my relatives from down there the other day and it was funny to hear that she is getting a new air conditioner installed. It’s funny because this is at the same time when we are cranking our heat up and wearing two jackets when we go outside.

It made me think though that this is a good time for those in colder areas to have AC units installed as well, because it should be easy to get a company that is free to do so, and even if not it’s not as if time is of the essence. I was able to find a variety of AC installers just by doing a quick Google search, and this Maryland air conditioning installation company looked pretty promising, so you might want to check them out if you live in the area. It’s a good idea to start thinking about AC for summer, as I remember that during June and August  folks who wanted to have AC installed had to wait weeks, and it was a big pain because it was so hot out.

Are You Looking To Get Away?

One thing that I would like to do in my life is to extensively explore every US state and Canadian province. There are just so many different things to see and do all over North America, and when I have the time and the money I’d really like to have the opportunity to enjoy them all. The history behind every state is quite interesting, and it’s neat  see the various historical monuments that are in North America while learning about different areas while travelling.

To Travel North America all the way from Alaska to Texas would make for a very long and great trip, and while I probably won’t be able take my entire dream trip anytime soon, doing some local travelling on a smaller scale is quite feasible. One state that I haven’t travelled to but would like to soon is Texas. Texas is considered a great state and so it’s definitely a must see.

Of course, Texas is huge and so it might take a few trips to see it all. I might start with Hill Country as I’ve read that it’s beautiful there, and I’d especially like to visit Fredericksburg as it’s known to have many wineries and festivals. Those are my kinds of things so I really can’t wait to go.
