Twitter Attacked By Worms!
Eek, watch out Twitter users! A spam attack hit Twitter in full force over the Holiday weekend, resulting in approximately one thousand spam “tweets”. Also, it is estimated that around two hundred user accounts were compromised, and used to send such Tweets from. However, a rep from Twitter states that while accounts were in fact compromised, no sensitive information was visible to the attackers.
It looks as though the worm used Javascript to spread the infection from four accounts which were presumably created by the hacker. Contracting the infection was as easy as visiting the profile of an already infected account. Thankfully, Twitter now seems to have everything back under control, and the service is running smoothly again.
This is the second major attack to hit Twitter, as earlier this year the accounts of major celebrities such as Britney Spears and even President Obama were compromised by hackers and used to send spam.
